Loree was born in Elk Creek, in Custer County, Nebraska, the fourth child of Galen Erb and Bernice Juanita Barkdoll, and spent her childhood and school years in Marilla, (Manistee County), Michigan. She graduated from Mesick Consolidated High School in 1951, and Manchester College (now Manchester University), North Manchester, Indiana, in 1955, with a BS degree in Secondary Education. She completed a master's degree in the Art of Teaching, at Monmouth College, Long Branch, New Jersey, in 1978.
In 1959 in Kansas City, Kansas, she married Dr. Ezatollah Foroughi. In 1957 Loree became a member of the Baha’i Faith which Dr. Foroughi also was. They were active in several different Baha’i communities wherever they lived in various states of the United States until they spent two years in Shiraz, Iran, 1962 to 1964. Upon returning to the States, they continued their membership and active life as Baha’is. Due to severe illness, Dr. Foroughi returned to Iran in 1978, and they divorced.
In 1979 Loree married Kenyon Earl Gross, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. When they both retired by 2002, they moved to Tianjin, China, where they spent the next six years teaching university students oral English, returning to the U.S. in 2008. In 2015 they moved to Crestwood Village North, Indianapolis, where they have lived up to the present time.
Loree is survived by her husband, Kenyon Foroughi-Gross; a brother, Stanley Barkdoll, Kearneysville, West Virginia; a sister, Ruth Willstead, Hebron, Indiana. Four children and their spouses: Layli Mohtashami, Mesa, Arizona; Susan Ofner, (Terry Ofner), Indianapolis, Indiana; David Foroughi, (Anisa Rodriguez), Salem, Oregon; Joseph Foroughi, (Andrea Matheny), Bangor, Pennsylvania. Also survived by eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
