Lisa Louise Motz, 53, died in the presence of her family at 10:15 pm on Friday, June 13, 2025 at her home in Noblesville, Indiana.
Lisa was welcomed into the world in Texas as the first child of two young and loving parents, Lyn and Barbara (Weigle) Mills. She graduated from Westfield High School in 1989 and married her husband Aaron Motz on April 25, 1998. Lisa became a mother on December 10, 2000, and welcomed her second child to the family on April 9, 2004.
Lisa was a wonderful caretaker and host, and enjoyed tending to the well-being of those around her. She is remembered by her daughter and son as a patient, supportive and selfless mother, a woman who was known by all for her strength, her strong-willed personality, and her reliability in every situation. She enjoyed shopping, going to the movies, and eating out with her friends. She was a highly skilled scrapbooker and a blueberry muffin connoisseur. Lisa loved to travel and had adventurous overseas trips planned with her daughter and son. She was renowned for her organizational skills—no one would be surprised to find any previous mess or inefficient arrangement brought into perfect labeled order after Lisa was finished with it.
Lisa Motz built for herself a successful and fulfilling career working for the City of Carmel, where she began as an administrative assistant to the Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals in 2013. In 2018 Lisa took over as Office Manager for the Department of Community Services, where she loved working with not only the people on her team, but also people from the other city departments. Everyone knew and respected Lisa—she was friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. Lisa derived great satisfaction from knowing everything was just right, and fostered the expectation of high standards of public service from her DOCS team. She worked tirelessly to hear people out, and to make sure they were recognized for their achievements. Lisa made people feel special and elevated the workplace with her commitment to her work family, always making sure that her people had the best of tools, vehicles, and work and safety attire. Lisa Motz was the heart of the office. Her energy and joy were contagious. She was promoted to Operations Manager for the City of Carmel in 2024 and continued to make the department a place of high performance and low drama—a workplace environment where people wanted to be. She will be missed greatly.
Lisa is survived by Aaron Motz and their daughter Emma and son Elliott. She is also survived by her mother and father, her brothers Andrew Mills (Sarah) and Travis Mills (Brooke), her sister Julie (Mills) Kusher (Rudy), together with Rick and Linda Motz, Eric and Jen Motz, Lisa’s nieces Avy and Eleanor, and her nephews Weston, Rudy, Easton, Cameron, and Dylan. Further survivors include sixteen loving and devoted aunts and uncles, and a legion of admiring cousins. Lisa leaves behind her dearest childhood friend, Susan Zepp, who remained a true and steadfast companion to the very end.
It is a testimony to Lisa’s character that an extraordinary number of close, dedicated friends and dear colleagues from the City of Carmel mourn her passing—all of whom touched her heart innumerable times through their steadfast support and selfless acts of kindness and devotion in her time of dire need.
The terrible and untimely loss of our dear Lisa is deeply painful; our lives are shattered, and we are heartbroken. But may all those who mourn Lisa’s passing find inspiration in her courage and resilience in the face of mortality and grievous physical pain. May they be comforted by the memories they shared with her and may they think of her deep generosity, her sharp wit, her enduring love of others.
Our beloved Lisa Louise Motz has passed away,
but the bond of familial love and true friendship endures.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family being made to The Motz Living Trust for Lisa’s daughter and son as they reorient themselves in the world, or to the Courtney Cox Cole Infusion Center at the Riverview Health Noblesville Hospital (please select the specific campaign of the Infusion Center), where Lisa was treated with such warmth and compassion.
A Private Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date.
