Linda Mason

March 9, 1940 — March 15, 2013

Linda Campbell Mason, 73, passed away March 15, 2013. She was born in Indianapolis in 1940 to the late Edward D. and Ruth Beckman Campbell. Linda graduated from Shortridge High School and attended Colorado College and Butler University. Linda is survived by her daughter Catharine and partner Daniel, and by her son Brian and wife Amy. She also leaves behind three grandchildren--Sophie, Zachary, and Elizabeth--who along with her memory will treasure the many intricate hand-knit toys, clothing and quilts their Nana made for them. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, John K. Mason, in August 2011. Linda was a member of First Congregational Church and in prior years served on the Board of Christian Education and taught in the church school. Linda found great meaning and joy in her work with the Assistance League of Indianapolis and with the Crossroads Guild. She stayed close with her childhood friends from Girl Scout Troop 43 and was known for her gift of connecting with elders. She loved gardening, needlework, reading, and music, and will be heartily missed by the neighborhood cats and birds. She treasured her friends and also her neighbors near the childhood home her parents built, where she spent her final two decades. Linda had a great love of travel and particularly enjoyed photographing her adventures to share with others. She belonged to the Riviera Camera Club and received several awards for her photos. An adventurous and outgoing person, Linda was enthusiastic about trying new things. Neighbors describe her as regularly zipping in and out of her driveway to and from one engagement or another. Linda's eldest granddaughter Sophie recently described her Nana as "happy, excited and curious" and that positive energy will be very much missed by those she leaves behind. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, March 20 at 1:00 P.M. at First Congregational Church. Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church, Assistance League of Indianapolis, or the Crossroads Guild.
