New Palestine

September 17, 1944 – July 19, 2026

Linda Louise Benson, 81, of New Palestine, Indiana, passed away on July 19, 2026, in Zionsville, Indiana, after a courageous, long-standing struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born on September 17, 1944, in Oolitic, Indiana, to Moneva and Walter Staley. A graduate of Warren Central High School, Linda was defined by her devotion to her family and her strong work ethic. As a single mother, she dedicated herself completely to raising her son in a home filled with warmth and love. She dedicated 15 years to RCA Manufacturing and later served as a lead teller for Chase Bank until her retirement.

Outside of her career, Linda found her greatest joy in simple pleasures. She loved tending to her garden and cherished every moment spent with her family—especially her grandchildren and her older sister and best friend, Sue.

Linda married her husband, Gordon Richard Benson, on July 4, 1996. During their 30 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling together and devotedly cared for one another through sickness and health.

Linda is survived by her loving husband, Gordon Richard Benson; her son, Michael Scott Brothers, and daughter-in-law, Grace Marie Brothers; three stepchildren; and ten grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Moneva and Walter Staley; her former husband, Walter Edwin Benson; her siblings, Walter Staley, Robert Staley, and Sue New; her stepdaughter, Dawn Benson Matters; and her step-grandchild, Joey Matters.

A graveside service will be held on July 28 at 1:00 pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East Cemetery.
