Lexie Louise Nolan, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born on September 25, 1934, in Somerset, KY, to Dewey and Zena Smotherman.
From a young age, Lexie was drawn to the arts, often taking the lead in school plays at George Washington High School. Her passion led to a successful and fulfilling career as a professional artist. She studied at the John Herron School of Art, where she met the love of her life, Robert B. Nolan. They were married for 46 wonderful years until his passing in 2001.
Throughout her career, Lexie wore many creative hats. She was a portrait artist for Paula’s Studies, a fashion illustrator for Blocks Department Store, and later an entrepreneur, founding her own business, Lexie’s Ladies, at the City Market in downtown Indianapolis. Her artwork was cherished by countless family members, friends, and clients who admired her unique ability to capture beauty and emotion.
Lexie's life was defined not only by her artistic talent but also by her deep devotion to her faith and family. A devout Catholic, she was a dedicated member of St. Jude Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir, read scripture during Sunday Mass, and volunteered her time to help those in need.
Those who knew Lexie will remember her as a kind, honest, and compassionate soul. She had a profound way of reassuring others of Christ’s constant presence in their lives. Her unwavering faith and joyful spirit left a lasting impression on all who met her. Lexie truly lived a life rooted in love, grace, and service, and her legacy will live on in the many lives she touched.
She is survived by her children: Aaron (Susan) Nolan, Wayde (Daphne) Nolan, Bobby Nolan, Jennifer (Jerry) Long, and Vincent (Kathy) Nolan; her grandchildren: Christina Nolan, Jessica Bradford, Kelly Garner, Erica Lindsey, Andrew Patterson, Shelby Rosas, and Cheyenne Goldsby; and great-grandchildren: Nolan, Olivia, Mason, and Amelia Bradford, Jackson and Riley Garner, Mateo and Geo Rosas, and Lily Goldsby.
Lexie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert, her parents, her brothers JB and Denny, her sisters Vera and Linda, and her youngest son, Ryan.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Decatur Township, located at 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46221.
An additional visitation will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM at St. Ann Catholic Church, located at 6350 S. Mooresville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46221.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 PM. Father Joseph Newton will officiate.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery where Lexie will be laid to rest with her husband Robert Nolan.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Lexie's name be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
