Lewis W. Lyons
Completed his earthly travels on July 6, 2013; a journey of 94 years that began May 19, 1919. He is lovingly remembered by family, friends and enumerable former students. His career as an educator spanned over four decades during which he touched young lives as a music teacher, guidance counselor, leader of bands, orchestras, and choirs. Beyond the classroom he offered years of individual piano instruction and led numerous youthful expeditions to Europe as part of the People to People program.
Lewis, who maintained a lifelong passion for classical music, was an active member of the Organ Historical Society and the Indianapolis Chapter of the American Guild of Organist serving as their Dean from 1978 to 1980. He also served as the organist at St. Matthews Lutheran Church for 43 years. A kind and gentle man of faith, he brightened the lives of those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by brothers Paul and Deford Lyons and is survived by his sister Lucille Fleehearty; nieces Judy, Patty, Kathy; nephews David and Trevor and "surrogate granddaughters' Carrie and Megan Canfield.
