Lewis F. Dailey 91, of Indianapolis, passed away September 9, 2013. He was born January 9, 1922 in North Vernon, IN to Elmer and Ella Dailey. He was a Life Member of American Legion Garfield Park Post 88. He was a member for over 55 years. Lew had been a Master Mason since February 1951, belonging to the Prospect Masonic Lodge, the Fraternal Order of Police and a member of the Shriners Motorcycle Drill Team until he was 83 years old. In 1976 he served as the 33rd President of the Shrine Police Club and president again in 1992. Lewis graduated from Manual High School in 1940 and went to work for Allison Engine Company before joining the Coast Guard during WWII. Lew was released from the Coast Guard October 11, 1945 after two years of service. He joined the Indianapolis Police Dept. in 1946 and served for over 44 years. He retired as a Lieutenant when he was 72 years old. He had also been a member of Garfield Park United Church of Christ for over 40 years. Lew is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Irene and his daughter, Terri Lee Dailey. He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Leo) K. Dailey-Moye, two granddaughters, Michelle Moye, Stacey Augustine and one grandson, Mark Dailey, three great-grandsons, Adam Wiese, Mark Dailey II, Eli Augustine and two great-granddaughters, Amber Wiese and Ava Augustine. Friends may visit with Lew's family from 4-8 PM Thursday at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN. The funeral will be held at 10 AM Friday at the Funeral Center. Entombment will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Lew's name to the Alzheimer's Assn.
