Leonard 'Len' H. Smith

S Lt. Col Leonard "Len" H. Smith, 80, of Indianapolis, passed away November 22, 2011. He was born on July 31, 1931 to Leonard D. B. and Catherine Smith. Smith was a native of Freeport, New York and moved to Indianapolis in 1977 following retirement from the U. S. Air Force where he served as a staff meteorologist at various stations around the world. He was a graduate of Texas A & M College and received his commission at the USAF Officer Candidate School in San Antonio, Texas in 1951. Smith was well known in Indianapolis music and theatre circles where he was a regular contributor to the arts. He kept copious historical records and regularly attended sprint and midget auto races throughout his life. He served as statistician for the All American Midget Series. He is survived by his brother, Eugene Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Stuart F. Smith. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street.
