Leah F. (Ryker) Shubert, 87

Leah Shubert of New Palestine, IN, 87, passed from this life into the loving and merciful arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, August 4, 2021.  Leah was born on November 14, 1933 in Linden, Indiana to the late William and Iva Ryker.  She was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1952, where she also met the love of her life, Glenn Shubert.  Leah and Glenn married on November 26, 1955, and were married for 61 wonderful years.

Leah was a homemaker and, later in life, worked part-time as a clerk at the Indiana National Bank until her retirement.  After retirement, she learned the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis was opening and in need of volunteers.  Leah was an original volunteer of the Ronald McDonald House and loved serving the families who had need of the services of the House.  Leah retired after 30 years of service at the Ronald McDonald House with many wonderful memories and relationships.  During her service, she received one of the highest awards a volunteer could receive – the Lori Kleiman award.  Leah was a member of Crosspointe Baptist Church in Avon (formerly Eagledale Baptist Church in Indianapolis).  Leah and Glenn enjoyed traveling, especially the many memorable and fun trips taken with their senior group church family led by Pastor Lew Hunter and his wife Pam.  Leah lived with her daughter Rhonda and son-in-law Mark and loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends.  She was passionate about reading her bible and spending time with the Lord each day.  If she wasn’t busy with an activity, she would be in her favorite chair in the den reading a good mystery book by one of her favorite authors.

Leah was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Shubert, May 2017 and her son, David Glenn Shubert, March 1999.  Leah is survived by her daughter, Rhonda (Mark) Burris, her grandchildren Anna Woods, Christopher Burris, Ryan (Stephanie) Burris and Joshua (Meagan) Burris and her great grandchildren Jacob and Olivia Woods, Harper and Hudson Burris and Eloise and Alton Burris.
