Le (Leon) Ollie Riggs died in his home on Friday, December 4, 2015 in Indianapolis, Indiana due to extended illness. He was 86.
Leon was born on May 10, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana to his parents, Ollie and Dorothy Riggs. Leon lived in Indianapolis, Indiana for most of his life.
Leon was a very successful businessman. In 1964, he founded United Package Liquors, a chain of retail package liquor stores; and then in 1969 started LOR Corporation, a commercial real estate company. Prior to that time, he was a successful car salesman and insurance salesman. He also loved flying planes and performed in multiple airshows as a daredevil stunt pilot. Leon was a 50-year member of the Masons.
Leon was very philanthropic during his life giving his time and money to those in need. In 2005, he formed United Hope Foundation, which has donated $1,500,000 to those individuals experiencing extreme financial hardship.
Leon is survived by his daughter, Cindy Hill (husband Keith Hill); his son, Mike Riggs; his sister, Carol Riggs, five grandsons, Michael Riggs, Jr, Alexander Riggs, Benjamin Riggs, Justin Hill and Adam Hill; two great-grandchildren, Luke Hill and Alexandra Hill. He is preceded in death by his sister, Rose Ricci; and his brothers, Don Riggs and Bill Riggs.
A Celebration of Leons life will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Flanner and Buchanan-Geist, 7855 Cork Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46236. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 7:00 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Hope Foundation, 6350 Rucker Rd., Suite 101, Indianapolis, IN 46220.
