Lawrence Joseph Martin
84, died Monday in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born in Bakersfield, California and was preceded in death by his parents Amanda and Lorenzo, and three of his six siblings. He is survived by sisters, Rosemary, Peachy and Angela. Larry, also known as "Big Daddy" and "Larry the Plumber," was a decorated Veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 440. Larry loved the outdoors and enjoyed time fishing, gigging, hunting, and tending to his many gardens of beautiful flowers. In his younger days he was known for his entertaining town-wide bottle rocket wars on the Fourth of July. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Katherine Martin, and their four children, Fred Jones, Linda Murphy, Teresa Hinshaw, and Michael Martin. Larry also leaves behind his 12 grandchildren Kyle, Erin, Colin, Heather, Ashleigh, Daniel, David, Renee, Vito, Samantha, Katherine, and Jesse and six great-grandchildren. Larry will be missed greatly by family and friends alike. He will be remembered for his humor and generosity, his sometimes intentionally comical mispronunciation of words, and for his strength and unwavering loyalty and support of family and friends.
Services will be held at Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple, on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 1 p.m. with visitation on the preceding Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers , the family requests donations be made to the Indianapolis Humane Society or IndyFeral Community Cat Program.
