Lawrence "Larry B." Helkema

Lawrence “Larry B.” Benjamin Helkema, 82, of New Palestine, IN, passed away March 12, 2022.

He was born in Indianapolis on September 6, 1939 to the late Francis and Thelma Helkema.

Larry was a lifelong learner, receiving his Masters and Education Specialist Degree . He worked in education as a teacher and school psychologist in Warren Township school system. After retirement, he worked as a naturalist for the Indiana State Parks system.  He  loved nature, hikes and being outdoors. He was fond of gardening and spending time with those he loved most.

A man of strong faith, his life verse from the Bible was from  James 1: 2-4 “Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

He is survived by his beloved, Nancy Elliott Welling; beloved children,  Lauri A. (Chad) Kritzer, Patricia Rzeszut, ,Angela (Patrick) Myers, Drew ( Michelle) Welling, and Jame Welling. Grandchildren; Ben (Alaina) Watson, Chase Watson, Joshua  Rzeszut, Matthew Rzeszut, Michelle Myers, Michael Myers, Melissa Myers, Emily Welling and Kaitlyn Welling .

A graveside service will be held at Washington Park East Cemetery on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 11AM.
