LaVerne Krueger Wachholz 85, of Carmel, passed away on December 6. LaVerne Margaret was born on October 11, 1929 in Oak Lawn, IL to Herb and Margaret (Peggy) Krueger. LaVerne will be deeply missed by her devoted husband of 60 years, Art Wachholz, their adult children Janie (Charlie) Podell, Jill, Artie (Heather), and Gretchen (Pete) Rans, six grandchildren, Wes (Ally), Jamie, Emily, Brian, Karen and Will. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Bob (Helen) Krueger, sister Marilyn (Chet) Hills, and nephew Mark Krueger. LaVerne was a graduate of Calumet High School, Chicago. She worked as a legal secretary for Chicago Title and then as a stewardess for American Airlines. LaVerne met Art while in Oak Lawn Theater's production of Brigadoon. He saw her performance and asked her for a date. LaVerne had wonderful experiences singing in the Morgan Park Baptist choir, leading Girl Scouts and volunteering with Chicago Child Care and Ridge Service Guild. She and Art moved their family to Carmel, Indiana in 1972. LaVerne was known for her unique fashionable style and lasting friendships. Her smile and enthusiasm warmed the hearts of everyone she met. She loved life! Traveling often with Art, she took much pleasure in visiting with friends in Chicago, Florida, Wisconsin and Arizona. She enjoyed bridge, gourmet, tennis, jogging, sewing, and knitting. She was an active supporter of her grandchildrens' sports teams, and an enthusiastic fan of the Cubs, Pacers, Colts and Hoosiers. A service celebrating LaVerne's life will be held on Friday, December 12 at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel, 325 E. Carmel Drive, with family and friends gathering from 10:00a.m. until 1:00 p.m., and a service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Rd. Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests: The Arthritis Foundation or the Melanoma Research Foundation.
