In Loving Memory of Lavern (Vern) Wilkerson

Laverne (Vern) Wilkerson, 102, passed away on November 14, 2024. Born on September 1, 1922, Vern proudly served his country during World War II. After the war, he moved to Indianapolis, where he attended barber college and met his beloved wife, Lavon Oliphant. They shared 54 wonderful years of marriage.

Vern and his brother, John, successfully owned and operated several barber shops for over 40 years. He was passionate about gardening, finding joy in planting and nurturing trees, vegetables, and flowers. Vern also loved fishing and was a devoted fan of the Indianapolis Colts, and in later years was always seen wearing his Colts hat.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Preceding him in death are his wife Lavon and his brothers John and Darrell. 

Vern is survived by his sons David (Marijane) Wilkerson and Ken (Susan) Wilkerson; daughter Kristi (David) Puffett; grandchildren Rachel and Scott Puffett, Graham (Shelby) Wilkerson, and Audrey (Rich) Jones; great grandchildren Reece Wilkerson, Ella and Jack Jones.

Visitation and funeral services will be Monday, November 25, 2024, from 1 pm to 3 pm. Funeral services at 3 pm. Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229).
