Laura Frances Newhouse, 74, passed away peacefully March 18th, 2026. She was born May 21st, 1951 in Vincennes, Indiana to parents George and Hannah (Snowdon) Hoover.
Laura grew up in Bicknell and Petersburg, Indiana, and graduated from Petersburg High School.
At the age of 1, she traveled on the Queen Mary with her family to Durham, England where she was baptized in the Holy Trinity Church. Throughout her life she had the opportunity to travel to many places outside the US including England, Scotland, Portugal, and Italy.
Laura was a hard worker and held many positions over her life. She worked as a medic, a records processor, a baker, a barista, a waiter/server, a mall shop attendant, and even owned her own bookstore for a time. Her most important job, though, was being a mother to her children.
Laura proudly served her country in the United States Air Force. She joined as a young woman right after high school and became an Air Force medic, serving during the Vietnam War. She was trained at Lackland AFB in Texas and was later stationed at Travis AFB in California working at the David Grant Medical Center. She was honorably discharged from service in 1971.
Laura was a strong, loving woman with a big heart and great sense of humor. She liked to stay busy through a variety of hobbies, often enjoying knitting, sewing, and watercolor painting. Laura was a voracious reader, frequently finishing long books in just a day or two. She preferred horror and thriller novels, but read the occasional romance book as a palate cleanser. Laura was devoted to her family and loved being “Nana” to her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Lee (Laurie) Scott, Erik (Tricia) Scott, Anna (Conor) Scott-Richard, Stephanie (Mark) Scott Van der kam, Jonathan (Kristen) Scott, Ryan Scott, and David (Sherry) Scott; her step-daughters Sascha (Ronnie) Simpkins and Meryl (Charlie) Feathers; her grandchildren Nathan, Isadore, Ryan, Charlie, Oliver, Iris, Ava, Zoe, and Alexander; the father of her children Bruce E Scott; and her siblings Marjorie Hoover, Beverly (Andy) Watson, Alice (Steve) Donaldson, Rebecca (Steve) Gremore, and David (Debbie) Hoover.
Laura is preceded in death by her parents George and Hannah, her brother George William Hoover, and her husband Robert L Newhouse.
Laura will be laid to rest at IOOF cemetery in Edwardsport, Indiana on April 1st, at 12pm (8287 N Summers Rd, Edwardsport, IN 47528).
