Larry L. Harmon

Larry L. Harmon, 75, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at his home in Indianapolis. Larry was born March 24, 1941 in Marion, Indiana to the late Lawrence Harmon and Eve Harmon Purvis. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary (Linville) Harmon, and his two sons, Christopher Harmon (Elizabeth Scott) and Jonathan Harmon. A tireless advocate of youth soccer for over thirty years, Larry began his involvement as a youth coach at the local level and eventually became involved at the state, regional and national levels. Among his many roles to promote youth soccer, Larry served as President of Indiana Youth Soccer Association, chaired the Indiana Youth Soccer Foundation, served as youth representative to the USSF Board of Directors, served on the USSF Women’s Development Committee, was a member of Indiana Citizens for Sports Equity, and was a board member of the United States Youth Soccer Association. Larry was inducted into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame and is one of only 22 Life Members of the United States Soccer Federation. He was a recipient of the Mike Vogel Humanitarian Award and was awarded a Sagamore of the Wabash in 1996. In 2008 the trophy for the US Youth Soccer Under 16 Boys’ National Championship Cup was named in his honor. The family would like to thank the staff of IU Cancer Center, Seasons Hospice Care and all the family and friends for their thoughts and prayers.
