Larry Dean Beloat was born June 17, 1937 inOwensville, Indiana, the second son of Ralph and Mary Katherine Beloat. He was preceded in death by his parents andhis brother, Gerald.
Larry’s father was the resident manager of a60 acre apple orchard and the “great outdoors” was Larry’s childhoodplayground. He climbed trees, jumped outof the hay loft, swam in the pond, fished in the creek and wandered the fieldsfrom dawn to dark! Larry attendedOwensville Community School which housed all 12 grades in one building. In high school he played basketball, was catcheron the softball team, student manager for the football team and sang tenor in aquartet that performed at most school, church and community events. The quartet even appeared a few times on thelocal radio and TV station.
Larry served with the U.S. Army and wasstationed in Germany for 13 months. After Army discharge he moved to Indianapolis for work and school. There he renewed the acquaintance of a younglady he had known in high school by the name of Joyce Townsend.
March 2, 1958, Larry and Joyce were united inmarriage. Their union was blessed withthe birth of three children, Mark, Karen and Timothy. In later years the family circle expanded toinclude son-in-law, Glenn Clifton, and daughter-in-law, Paula; grandchildren-Nicole, Natalie, Kylie, Katherine, Emilie, Allie, Shelby, Michael, Ava andAnna; and great-grandsons, Luke and Samuel.
In January 1966, Larry joined the staff ofChristian Theological Seminary as Director of Physical Plant. His first responsibilities were to move theschool from a building on Butler campus to a newly constructed facility on West42nd Street. Later he oversaw thecompletion of that complex with the construction of a library wing, a Chapel, two apartment buildings for student housing and renovations of two mansionsoriginal to the property. He retiredfrom CTS (which he called “the preacher factory”) in 1999.
Retirement allowed time to again enjoy a longtime hobby of fishing and he was sitting on a bank somewhere with a line in thewater as often as possible. Like all “goodfishermen” Larry always had a fish story to tell about his last “big catch” orthe even bigger one that got away!
Afer his family, Larry’s greatest passion wasairplanes. Oh how he loved to fly! He was extremely proud of having earned hispilot’s license and had a reputation of being an excellent pilot. He had a copy of John Gillespie Magee, Jr.’spoem High Flight that he said expressed his feelings when flying.
“Oh, I haveslipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;—Put out my hand and touched the face of God.”
Larry went to be with His Heavenly Father onJuly 7, 2016.
