L. Richard “Dick” Gohman, 82, of Fishers, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. He was born on November 30, 1942, to the late Louis and Gertrude Gohman in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dick described his father, an I.P.D. Officer, and his mother, a Methodist minister’s daughter, as providing a very supportive childhood for he and his sister, Joanne. Dick attended I.P.S #66 and Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis.
Dick obtained an A.B degree in education from I.U.’s School of Arts and Science in 1965, and a M.A. degree in Education from I.U. in 1967. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He graduated from the I.U. Law School, Indianapolis, with a J.D. in law in 1971.
In 1969 Dick married Anne Fox. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anne; his sister Joanne Iozzo; and his in-laws, Bill and Kathy Fox. He is also survived by his nieces: Laura Iozzo Dearing (Jim), and Angela Wagner (Dan); nephew, Sean Fox, as well as his special friends: Taja Rumble (Kevin), and Gabe Lamb (Jennifer).
Dick was a senior analyst for the Indiana State Budget Agency from 1967 – 1971. He was a Deputy Commissioner for the Higher Education Commission from 1971 – 1973. He was Assistant to the President and General Counsel for Indiana Vocational Technical College from 1976 – 1982.
In 1982 he joined the law firm of Hall, Render, Killian, Heath, and Lyman. There he practiced health law until his retirement in 2006. He spoke about and authored numerous articles on health law while at Hall Render. Dick was a member of the ABA, other professional organizations, and was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash in 1990 by Governor Evan Bayh.
Dick played both competitive and social tennis and golf for many years. He was a member of Carmel Racquet Club, Woodstock Club, Fishers YMCA, and Eagle creek Golf and Country Club in Naples, Florida. He also loved traveling, fishing, and just being with family and friends. A favorite pastime was sitting on the deck overlooking the White River and watching the wildlife and people going by.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers and helpers who supported Dick this last year.
Final arrangements have been entrusted to Flanner Buchanan - Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.
