Kyle Hendrix

January 19, 1963 — September 18, 2021

Indianapolis, IN

Loren Kyle Hendrix, 58, Indianapolis, tragically died on September 18, 2021 as a result of surgery complications. Born January 19, 1963, Kyle grew up in Seymour, Indiana, graduated from Seymour High School in 1981 and Purdue University in 1985.

A passionate environmentalist and true public servant, Kyle lent his professionalism and expertise to revitalize contaminated land through brownfields redevelopment at Indiana Dept of Environmental Management, the City of Indianapolis, Keramida Environmental, Texas Dept of Environmental Quality and most recently at the Indiana Finance Authority. He formed strong bonds and friendships everywhere he worked.

In 2003, Kyle married his true love and best friend, Julie Rhodes. Their partnership was warm and fun (and furry with their animal menagerie). With the birth of their son, Ansel, in 2004, their family was complete for adventures and travels, silly fun and dad jokes. A devoted husband and dad, Kyle’s calm spirit was a guiding light to the family and his community. Settling in Cottage Home neighborhood, Kyle organized community music shows to lift morale during the pandemic. He volunteered for neighborhood clean ups, playground installation and helping with the annual block party. He led the planning effort and opening of Indy Food Co-op/Pogue’s Run Grocer. A vegetarian foodie and health enthusiast, Kyle was always willing to share a cup of coffee or some local beer. He was an avid runner and weightlifter and enjoyed tennis, hiking and Fantasy Football.

He was recognized not just for his unique form of humor and the laugh that followed, but also for his striking silver hair and beard, sharp vested dress, and genuinely warm waves and welcomes. Many near and far loved Kyle immensely and miss him deeply, including: wife, Julie Rhodes; son, Ansel Hendrix; mother, Claudette Hendrix; brother, Kelly Hendrix; sister, Lori Holly (Stephen); nieces, Kellye Hendrix Fleitz, Abbey Rhodes Koneru (Varun), Audrey Rhodes Rodman (Adam), Riley Rhodes; great niece, Lennon Rodman; nephews, Ben and Jacob Holly, Leighton Rhodes. He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence Kelly Hendrix. Memorial contributions may be sent to: https://gofund.me/f0829290
