Kim Lee Rader
74, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed peacefully with his family by his side at 10:45 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.
Mr. Rader was born on May 25, 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of William K. "Bud" & Mildred Rader. He attended Broad Ripple High School, after graduation in 1956; he proudly served his country in the Army as a Military Policeman. In 1958 he married his high school sweetheart, Sue Durgan, who preceded him in death, passing away in March 2001.
He spent the majority of his working life in the automotive parts business, where he worked for Spradling Auto Parts & NAPA Auto Parts for over 31 years. He served as President of the Indiana Automotive Maintenance Association in 1972-73. After retirement from NAPA in 1998, he worked part-time for Chartwell Midwest & for several years as a hospice volunteer for Community Hospital.
Mr. Rader spent a great deal of his time enjoying his 42 years of membership in the Fraternity of Freemasons. He devoted much of that time serving as a "Dad" & Advisor helping young men in the Order of DeMolay. He served on the Advisory Council of Millersville Chapter – Order of DeMolay from 1974 to 1983 and was honored to be awarded the Indiana Advisor of the Year for 1980-81. He also was invested with the DeMolay Legion of Honor by DeMolay International. He was a proud member of the following Masonic bodies: Millersville Lodge #126 F&AM (Life Member), Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite (Life Member), Millersville Chapter #300 - Order of the Eastern Star, Sahara Grotto (Past President of Drum & Bugle Corps), Sahara Grotto – Twenty Year Club, Indianapolis High Twelve Club #772 (Past President), Millersville York Rite Bodies (Joshua Chapter #158 of Royal Arch Masons, Hiram's Council #111 of Cryptic Masons & H.E. Lackey Commandery #67 of Knights Templar), Frank S. Land Lodge #758 (Charter Member), Indianapolis Murat Shrine (DeMolay Unit) and Devol Lodge #766 (Honorary Member). In addition to his Masonic memberships, he was a member of Indianapolis Moose Lodge #17 & a member of Christians United Church in Indianapolis.
Mr. Rader was a loving & devoted Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather and was affectionately called Pappaw Rader by many of his loved ones. The lessons he taught to those who were close to him of love, respect, patriotism, integrity, attitude, courtesy, compassion & caring for others has created his legacy that will be carried on by all that had the honor of knowing him. He leaves behind his son, Wm. Dirk (Valerie) Rader of Columbus, Indiana; his daughter, Kimberly (Donald) Hapner of Indianapolis, four grandchildren (Jill Mishler of Columbus, Bradley Rader of Bradenton, Florida, Lindsay Hapner of Indianapolis & Krista Hapner of Indianapolis) and three great-grandchildren with one additional great-grandchild expected in January.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his sister, Deanna Kay Berry.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at Flanner & Buchannan Funeral Center - Washington Park East in Indianapolis with Rev. James A. McKinney officiating. Visitation will be at the same location for friends & family on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 2:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Two Masonic memorial services will be conducted immediately after the visitation time on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., with the Order of the Eastern Star Memorial Service, followed by the Masonic Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. All are encouraged to attend these Masonic memorial services, as they are open to the public.
