1954 Kevin 2025

Kevin McAndrews

September 5, 1954 — November 18, 2025

Zionsville, IN

Kevin Anthony McAndrews, son of Phyllis and Peter; brother to Clare, Phyllis, Sheila, John, Michael, Peter, Tom, Patrick, and James; husband to Michele; and father to Caitlyn, David and Sean, passed away on Tuesday evening after a long battle with cancer. He died at home, surrounded by his family and cats.

A lifelong Yankee fan, Kevin was born in the Bronx on September 5th, 1954. He grew up on Long Island, spending his days reading, watching Abbot and Costello, caddying at Bethpage Black, and bodysurfing, fishing, and starting a lifelong love of the ocean. He attended SUNY Delhi, receiving an Associates as a Lab technician. He then continued his education at SUNY Buffalo, graduating eventually, after many nights of euchre and pinochle with his family and friends and days playing coed football, with a double major in Evolutionary Anthropology and Biology. It was on the football field that he met the woman he would marry. And at the card table, and in their shared passion for fantasy and sci-fi that they fell in love. Michele and Kevin celebrated their 45th anniversary on April 18th, 2025.

He culminated his education with a masters in Farm Animal Science at the University of Rhode Island. His career as a laboratory technician and manager was long and varied, spanning several states, companies, universities, and nearly a half century. His contributions to research for diabetes, organ transplants, osteoporosis, and many other vital medical research may never be recorded in any journal but were vital to better, longer, and healthier lives for all humankind.

Kevin was beloved as a little league baseball coach, feared on the local trivia circuit, and adored as a father and husband. He took his junior baseball team to several championships and created a camaraderie that brought the same team together summer after summer. They even returned to start one of Zionsville’s first Big League (17/18 y/o) teams. He was given the McKamey Award for his contributions to the local game. His trivia team, 𝛑 (PI ), was eventually crowned as champions. In his children, he instilled lifelong passions for reading, science fiction, and an endless thirst for knowledge. He was kind, brilliant man and will be missed dearly.
