Kent J. Thompson

Kent J. Thompson, passed away on May 3, 2024, in Zionsville, IN. He was born in Kendallville, IN on February 26, 1950, as the fourth and the youngest child of Wayne and Emily Evers Thompson. After graduating from Kendallville High School in 1968, he went on to become a Ball State University alumnus in 1973.

After graduating college, Kent taught industrial arts for seven years at Carmel Junior High School, and then he switched careers to go into sales. He worked primarily with Castrol Industrial for the next 30 years, primarily throughout Indiana and Ohio.

On May 31, 1980, he married Loretta (Retzy) J. Crawford Thompson. They celebrated 44 years of happiness this year. Kent and Retzy lived in Carmel, IN until 1985 when they moved to Zionsville, making that their permanent home. In December 1982, the light of their lives was born, and they welcomed Ashley Crawford Thompson into their family. Kent felt like he hit the jackpot when Ashley was born; he could not have been prouder every single step of her life. Unfortunately, Ashley preceded Kent in death in 2011, but he spent his remaining years with Retzy honoring her remarkable life and light she spread throughout their family and community.

Kent is survived by his wife of 44 years, Retzy Thompson, brother Daryl Thompson (Brownsburg, IN), brother-in-law James P. Acton (Brownsburg, IN), and nieces and nephews, Kaymie, Tim, and Michael Thompson, Jon and Jason Acton.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ashley Crawford Thompson, his sister Judy A. Acton, brother Gale F. Thompson, and sister-in-law Janice Thompson.

Kent was such a wonderful, thoughtful, and caring husband and father. Ashley and Retzy were so blessed to have him in their lives.

Funeral services are entrusted to Flanner Buchanan – Zionsville. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 10 am – 11am at St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church, 1870 W. Oak Street, Zionsville, IN 46077, with a memorial mass to follow at 11am. Burial will take place at Zionsville Cemetery immediately following the memorial mass.
