Kenneth 'Smitty' Smith

December 1, 1944 — May 16, 2014

Kenneth Smith was born to Hurley G. Smith and Marie Harvey on December 1, 1944 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Kenneth was the 3rd of six children. He may have been the middle child but he set his own unique place in the family. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized as a young child. He attended IPS #32 and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School where he was an excellent basketball player and track star. Kenneth served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He retired from Indianapolis Power & Light Company after 28 years where he worked as a lineman. He was very skilled and many customers would often personally request his service because of his professionalism, dedication and his loveable personality. He was a great cook "all-star" chef quality and his most beloved recipe was gumbo. He would treat the family to this dish on holidays and other special occasions. He loved to fish and would routinely take off to Raccoon Lake or Eagle Creek for all day fishing trips early on Saturday mornings. He had a fond affection for good music and had a collection any music lover would envy and he loved fine cars from Cadillacs to Jaguars. Kenneth was a wonderful father and grandfather who spoiled his children. He was also a loving brother and doting uncle who will be extremely missed. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers Raymond, Ronald and sister Jacqueline. Kenneth transitioned into eternity on May 16, 2014 surrounded by his family. His memory will be forever cherished by his companion and caregiver Kathy Smith, his children Troy Jones, Alonza Taylor (Greg), Carmen Wright, Greg Wright, Kenneth Smith, Jr., Ryan and Avery Smith, his brothers Harold and Henry Smith (Inell), his 16 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Sincerely, -Your friends at Flanner and Buchanan
