Kenneth Lowell Wachtel passed away at home on September 17 after a long and accomplished life. He is remembered as a man of great faith, intelligence, compassion, gentleness, and generosity.
Born in Chicago, IL on May 31, 1932, he and his wife Marlene lived in Chicago, New Jersey and Waterloo, Belgium, raising three sons before retiring near their family in Westfield, IN.
As a youth, he was active in the Order of Demolay where he was a Past Master Councilor and was awarded the Degree of Chevalier. A graduate of Austin High School in Chicago, IL, he later entered the Navy, graduating first in his class from Naval Station Great Lakes and serving his country aboard the USS Midway.
After graduation from Rutgers University where he was a member of Delta Sigma Pi professional business fraternity, he was a manager with Western Electric, before becoming Director of Worldwide Installation for ITT Corp. in New York and Brussels. He was an ITT Ring of Quality recipient.
A devout Episcopalian, he helped found All Saints Church in Ohain, Belgium, and was a member of St Michael's in Noblesville. He was active in Faith Alive and Curcillo, and served several churches as a member of the vestry.
He is preceded by his mother, Muriel, brother Ronald, and two sisters, Virginia and Betty Jean (Bovee). His wife of 62 years, Marlene, three sons, David, Kevin (Robin), and Roger (Jeanette) and five grandchildren, Thomas, Kaitlin (Vevang), Benjamin, Joshua, and Caroline, survive.
Arrangements were entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan - Hamilton Memorial Park. Services will be held on September 26 at 12 pm at St Michael's Episcopal Church in Noblesville, with calling at the church from 10-12.
