Kenneth Kuper

March 16, 1926 — June 28, 2012

Kenneth E. Kuper, longtime Zionsville resident, died June 28, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born on March 16, 1926, the only child of Bruno and Delphine (Krodel) Kuper of Jasper, Indiana. Ken graduated from Bosse High School in Evansville, Indiana. He attended Purdue University, where he was a Sigma Chi, before entering the Army. Ken, a Second Lieutenant, served in Company D of the 332nd Engineering Corp. After completing his service to his country, Ken graduated from Indiana University. In 1948, Ken married Nancy Wright of Big Rapids, Michigan. He was employed by GMAC for 35 years, before his early retirement in 1981. In 1979, Ken was elected to the Zionsville Town Board, on which he served until 1995. He was also very active with the Zionsville Lions Club and the Historical Society, and served on the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Library Board from January 1980 to December 2003. He was especially proud of being a founding member of "The Romeos", best friends and golfers all. Ken was honored as a Distinguished Hoosier by Governor Frank Kernan, and received the Zionsville Town Crier Award in 1993. He was a Boy Scout Century Member, and received the Rotary Award for Outstanding Performance on December 11, 2003. Ken was thrilled with the Hole in One he made on June 28, 2011 at Brownsburg Golf Club. Ken is survived by his wife, Nancy Kuper; his son Kenneth E. Kuper and his wife Connie and their children Amy, Lisa, Angie, Abby, Kenneth Jr., and Andrew of Holland, MI; daughter Susan Kuper of Indianapolis; and daughter Sarah Renda and her husband Michael and their children Christopher and Elizabeth of Randolph, NJ. Great-grandchildren Alan and Jason Hoort and several nieces and nephews also survive. Calling will be at Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville on Sunday, July 1, 2012 from 2 to 6 p.m. Services will be Monday, July 2nd at 1 p.m., with calling from noon until time of service. Burial will follow at Zionsville Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Zionsville Library Foundation or United Cerebral Palsy, 107 N.
