Ken was born on June 4, 1938, to Delmer and Ada Carrier in Hustonville, Kentucky.  He graduated from Manual High School, Indianapolis, Indiana and enlisted in the Army serving from 1957 to 1960.  He met and married Jean Thomas in California before being stationed in Sandhofen, Germany as Specialist 4th Class.  After his service, Ken and Jean moved to Indianapolis where they raised 3 children Jerry, Barbara and Lori.  Ken and Jean celebrated 65 years of marriage in January 2024.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Charles, Mildred, Delmer, Louise, Sharon, and daughter Barbara.

Ken worked as a Deputy for the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.  He also worked at Chrysler Corporation for 25 years before “retiring” and starting his own Heating and AC company, serving the Indianapolis area for over 25 years.  He shared his HVAC expertise by teaching at Ivy Tech from 2009 to 2011.

Ken was a faithful servant of the Lord and a founding member of Epiphany Lutheran Church. Family and friends have described him as a devoted family man, friend, role model, and mentor. He was wise, hardworking, and fun loving. Ken truly enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.

He was passionate about his hobbies.  First and foremost – Food!  He loved to travel, visiting 48 states, over 20 countries, and sailing on 6 cruises where he enjoyed fine cuisine 24/7.  He loved sports and rarely missed a televised IU football or basketball game and enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds.  He was a fan of auto racing and even volunteered on a pit crew at the age of 75!

Ken loved spending time with family and friends and is survived by his wife Jean, 2 children Jerry (Donna) and Lori; 4 granddaughters Linsey Reed, Kate (Kevin) Todd, Charlotte Wilson, and Elaine (Avary) Sims; 9 great-grandchildren Jordan, Myra, Harry, John, Kendrick, Khayman, Oliver, Hazel, and Rosie; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerry and Judy Thomas.
