Mr. Keng Thongphay, 74, of Avon, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. He was born on March 5, 1940 in Ban Samunsakmueng, Laos to Phomma and Liam/Tha Thongphay. Keng worked as a Police Officer for the Laos Police Department and was honored to be presented with a special sword by the King of Laos. He was also a member of the Former Laos Police Alumni. Keng moved to the United States in 1979 and was sponsored by Southport United Methodist Church (Rev. Larry & Nancy Curtis and Bill & Rosie Bishop). He was very involved with the Laos community; volunteering his time as a sponsor and interpreter, helping many new families adjust to life in America. Keng is survived by his wife of 52 years, Teng Thongphay; children, Ratchany "April" Huffines and her husband, Komsan "Joey" of Indiana, Velavanh "Vela" Souksavong and her husband, Nasavanh "Na" of Tennessee, Suchawan Phomsouvan Thongphay of Laos, Phomveha "Peter" Thongphay and his wife, Kasey of Texas, and Somkiat "Bruce" Thongphay of Illinois. Keng is also survived by his grandchildren, Megan, Nathan, Curtis, Bishop, Orien, Angela and Rosalie. Keng is survived by 2 brothers and 1 sister; he was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Visitation for Mr. Thongphay will be Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 5 until 8pm at Flanner and Buchanan – Speedway. Funeral services will take place Thursday afternoon at 1:30pm, also in the funeral home; cremation will follow. Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
