Katie Sue (Cole) Cavin-Johnson,

age 88 of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away in the comfort of her own home on March 23, 2026. Katie was born on February 18, 1938, in Russellville, Arkansas. She was the oldest of four children born to the late Leamon Troy, Sr. and EllaV (Wirth) Cole. Katie married Donald E. Johnson on March 19, 1989. Together they spent 37 beautiful years building a life full of laughter, adventure, and love.

Katie will be remembered for her generous heart, outgoing personality, and her ability to make everyone she met feel like family. She cherished spending time with her loved ones, especially her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Katie enjoyed being a Troop Leader for the Girl Scouts when her girls were young. As her girls became teenagers, they were initiated into Job’s Daughter. Katie held several positions on the bethel council. Katie had a love of crafting whether it be scrapbooking, sewing or creating her beautiful ice blocks. She loved bowling and line dancing. Her outgoing personality shone brightly on the dance floor. Katie worked as a Secretary for Avalon Rafts Inc. in California for over 15 years before her retirement. She was a valued member of their team.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents, Leamon Troy, Sr. and EllaV Cole; her daughter, Joyle Giffin in 2006; her foster daughter, Vicki Ford (2018) and her brother, Leamon Troy Cole, Jr.

The memory of Katie will live on through her husband, Donald E. Johnson; her daughters, Sherri (Kenny) Phelps and Robin Hatch; her bonus daughter, Ronda Brown; her brother, Phillip (Ellen) Cole; her sister, LaVonia (Ron) Taylor; her 7 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Bill, Matthew, Jenessa, Michelle, Autumn, and Emily; her 8 great grandchildren, Danielle, Anakin, Joseph, Ian, Mia, Mason, Henry, and Lily; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026. Details on the location will be shared with others directly by the family of Katie.

Katie will be laid to rest in Alabama.

In memory of Katie, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
