Kathy Rae (Zimlich) Clark

Kathy Rae (Zimlich) Clark, age 72, of Zionsville, IN, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital.

Born in Indianapolis, IN on January 19, 1943, to the late Raymond O. Zimlich and Constance Apostol Zimlich, she was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School and Butler University, and taught elementary education in Nashville and Indianapolis, IN for several years. She later received a Masters Degree from Butler University, and for many years was employed by the Indiana and United States Departments of Education, serving as a site evaluator for school systems in Indiana and across the country.

A staunch advocate for excellence in education, Kathy served for several years as a member of the School Board for the Zionsville Community School Corporation, and remained an active and enthusiastic participant in the many school and extra-curricular activities of both her daughters and grandchildren.

Kathy was well known for her artistic talents, and her extensive knowledge and intense love of hosta plants, with over 100 varieties being found around her home, and will long be remembered for the courageous battle she waged against cancer for over sixteen years. Her ever positive attitude and perseverance will continue to serve as an inspiration to her family, and to all who had the good fortune to know her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her very special aunt and friend, Panoria Apostol. She is survived by the loves of her life, her husband of forty-nine years, Lawson Clark; daughters Christina Clark, Alison LoPresti (Nick), and Dr. Wendy Schulte (Ryan); five grandchildren, Owen Hasty, Julian and Anna LoPresti, and Patrick and Jack Schulte; her sister, Sally Davis; nephew and nieces, Christopher (Brenda), Jenny and Becky Davis; and her ever faithful pet and constant companion, Libby. She will forever live on in the hearts of all of them.

Special thanks to Dr. Stephen Schultz, and all of the kind and compassionate staff at the St. Vincent Cancer Center, many of whom became close friends through the years; Dr. Stanley Givens, and the St. Vincent Radiology/Oncology staff; and to the many kind and caring doctors, nurses and therapists at St. Vincent Hospital.

A private memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Indianapolis Humane Society, or other charity of your choice. Arrangements are being handled by Flanner Buchanan-Zionsville.
