Kathryn "Kathy" MacDonald

May 11, 1958 — Jul 14, 2026

Indianapolis, IN

If you were lucky enough to know Kathy MacDonald, chances are you have a story to tell.

Kathy lived life boldly, loved fiercely, and had a rare gift for making everyone feel like they belonged. With her unmistakable deep raspy voice, infectious laugh, magnetic personality, and larger-than-life spirit, she never met a stranger, only friends she hadn't met yet. No matter how long you knew her, Kathy had a way of leaving an impression that stayed with you.

Born on May 11, 1958 in Indianapolis, Kathy graduated from Martinsville High School, where she was a proud baton twirler in the marching band. She went on to build a successful career in real estate, as the owner of her own mortgage company and later a Realtor. While she was accomplished professionally, the relationships she built along the way always mattered far more to her than transactions.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Barbara Lindsay and Herbert Carpenter; her brothers, Herb and Chris Lindsay; her husband, Douglas MacDonald; and her son, Donnell Beard.

She is survived by her sister, Janet Carpenter; her children, Jake Nix and Lacey (Reggie Martin) Nix; her stepchildren, Althea MacDonald, Amanda MacDonald, Alana MacDonald, and Chris Tylicki; her cherished grandchildren, Alex (Dakota), Rubie, Caleb, Ryder, Kaiden "Tuna," Lizzie, Lucy, Eve, Mikaela, Alysha, Landon, Liam, Landon, Claira, Cooper, Britnee, and Bryce; and her adored great-grandchildren, Nova, Baby Jake, JJ, Azuna, and Kanati.

Kathy believed that life was meant to be lived with an open heart. Raised Catholic, she later embraced a deeply personal spiritual journey, blending Christian faith with Buddhist principles and a firm belief in karma. She found joy in reading tarot cards, collecting crystals, helping others find their way, and reminding people that life has a way of working itself out.

She was a huge fan of the Grateful Dead, a competitive fantasy football player, loved art, and was a Broad Ripple legend in the 1990s with her vibrant spirit, love of music, and fun nights with friends. Kathy loved a good party, but more than anything, she loved bringing people together. She had friends from every walk of life because she welcomed everyone without judgment.

If there was one role Kathy treasured above all others, it was being Grandma. In her later years, there was rarely a day when one or more of her grandchildren wasn't by her side. She wasn't simply the matriarch of the family. She was its heartbeat. To her children, she was more than a mother. She was their best friend, their trusted confidante, their biggest supporter, and the person they could always count on.

The world needs more people like Kathy. People who love without limits, welcome without judgment, laugh without reservation, and leave every room a little brighter than they found it. We were incredibly fortunate to have her in our lives. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
