Kathryn Sue Astrike, age 78, passed away peacefully with her family by her bedside on January 20, 2026 in Noblesville, Indiana. She was born on March 21, 1947 in Milan, Indiana to Roy and Marjorie Conaway, both of whom preceded her in death. She has a younger brother Ron Conaway presently living in Martinsville. Kathy spent her formative years in Martinsville, Indiana.
Kathy attended Vincennes University, where she met the love of her life, James Ray Astrike, with whom she shared over 58 years of marriage. They were married July 01, 1967. Together they built a home rooted in love and family in Needmore, Indiana. She is lovingly survived by Jim and their two children: Derek Astrike (wife Shannon) and Tisha Gaumer. There are four surviving grandchildren: Maddie Gaumer, Sophia Gaumer, Lexi Astrike, and Shane Astrike. Kathy was a devoted wife, mom, and grandma and her family was the great joy of her life.
Kathy enjoyed being outside no matter what the activity. She looked forward to planting her outside flower garden in the spring and tending it until fall. She also had several flower conglomerates sprinkled throughout the house depending on the type of sun conditions they needed. She loved sitting outside on the patio soaking up the warm sunshine while watching the butterflies and birds visit her flowers and feeders. She always looked forward to vacationing in Florida with her close friends and family where she would walk the beach in the mornings to observe the sunrise and search for shells.
Kathy was also the biggest sport fan with whatever sport her kids or grandkids were participating in. She attended as many events as possible to watch them from dance, soccer, horse jumping, basketball, football, baseball, and hockey. She enjoyed watching the Colts with Jim on Sundays. Going to the Colts preseason practice was always a fall highlight.
Kathy Sue Astrike will be remembered for her compassion of others, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to family, faith, and community. Though she will be deeply missed her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.
