It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathleen “Katie” Lockwood, who left us January 7, 2025. Kathy was born June 1, 1954, and she graced this world with her kindness, warmth, and an unwavering spirit that touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Throughout her life, Katie was known by many names: Kathy Grota, Kathy Plummer, Katie Wyatt, and Katie Lockwood. Each name marked a chapter of her remarkable journey, a testament to her ability to embrace change and navigate the various roles she held with grace and love.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, always putting her family’s needs above her own. She was a wonderful model for demonstrating unbiased love and patience towards others through her daily life. Her wisdom provided guidance to those who sought it. She will be remembered for her generosity, her compassion, and her unwavering commitment to her loved ones.
For many years, Katie was an active member of the Eastern Star, beginning her journey as a teenager with Jobs’ Daughters. She held numerous titles throughout her involvement, including the esteemed position of Worthy Matron. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church. Her dedication exemplified her commitment to community service and fellowship. Additionally, Katie enjoyed playing the cello with friends and family and with several local orchestras, including the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis and the Wiley Community Orchestra.
Katie leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her loving husband James (Jim) Lockwood; her children Larry Carl Plummer (Lori Ann Shaw) and Xelpha Lorraine (Damian) Profancik; her stepchildren Marla Wyatt Hammack Harrod and Kimberly Wyatt Wallace; her grandchildren Paul Plummer, Na’omi Plummer (Ravensky) McLoven, Richard Lee (Sara) Hammack II, Dawson Calvert, Abigail Wallace, Thomas Wright, Elizabeth Wright, and Ashley Pierce; and her great-grandchildren Bentley Knight, Kaylee Hammack, Cordell Hammack, Levi Hammack, and Carson Hammack. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward & Lorraine (Sherer) Grota and her late husband James Hollie Wyatt.
A celebration of Katie’s life will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Mount Olive United Methodist Church at 1449 S. High School Road in Indianapolis, with visitation from 1-3 p.m., where friends and family will gather to honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis in Katie’s honor.
Katie will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
