Kathleen Marie Allen of Carmel, IN, passed away on April 1, 2026, at the age of 87. She was born in Columbus, OH, on November 13, 1938, to parents, William and Amelia (Whalen) Kelley.
Kathleen worked for over 20 years as an insurance processor at Amerisure insurance company in Indianapolis and retired in 1998. She dedicated much of her retirement life to supporting the American Legion in Broad Ripple and Carmel Indiana. She was a volunteer Chaplain in the Auxiliary immersing herself in various activities supporting veterans from all services and impacting countless lives during her tenure. Her passion in service was assisting homeless veterans through financial and spiritual support, while also providing donations of food, water, and supplies for personal hygiene. In her free time, Kathy loved spending time with friends and family playing games like Euchre, Bridge, and Pinocle. She enjoyed any kind of board game, especially with her immediate family, that were so important to her. Throughout her life, Kathy thoroughly enjoyed traveling. She visited sons serving in the military overseas in Greece and Korea and throughout the United States in South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, southern Indiana and North Dakota.
Kathleen married James F. Allen on October 5th, 1957. He preceded her in passing in December 1986. She is survived by children, James (Elizabeth) Allen, Michael (Sun Young) Allen, Steven (Debbie) Allen, Robert (Melanie) Allen; grandchildren, Katie, Kyle, Sajani, Mark, Christopher, Michael; and sibling, Bill Kelley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Amelia Kelley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kathleen’s honor may be made to The Carmel American Legion Auxiliary.
A Graveside Service will be held at 12:30pm, Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Washington Park North Cemetery (2702 Kessler Boulevard W. Dr. Indianapolis, IN 46228). Everyone is invited to join the family for food and fellowship in a Celebration of life from 2:30pm-4:30pm at the Carmel American Legion (852 W. Main St. Carmel, IN 46032).
