Katherine Mary "Katie" Poulos,
91, of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2013. She was of Greek and Macedonian decent, born to Zesis and Fannie (Phillipa) Dine on February 9, 1922. Katie was a native resident of Indianapolis, graduating from Tech High School in 1940. She served proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII. Katie was stationed in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas where she attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. During the war she exchanged a letter a day with the love of her life, Navy Machinist James Poulos. They were married in 1946 and together had 3 wonderful sons; Phillip Adam, Gary James, and Angelo Poulos. In addition to caring for her family, she was also very active in the community. Katie logged over 3100 hours of service with the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center and was a former officer for the Women's Army Corps Hoosier Chapter 93. Katie was also honored as the 2002 Central Indiana Goodwill Volunteer of the Year. She was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and recent member of St. Stephen's Eastern Orthodox Church. Katie is survived by her sons, Gary James Poulos and Angelo Poulos; grandchildren, Elaine, Courtney, Seth and Marika; 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim Poulos, who passed away in 1986; and her son, Phillip Adam Poulos, who passed away in 2007. Katie was also preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Anthony, George, Goldie and James.
Calling will be held on Wednesday November 06, 2013 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 3500 West 106th Street Carmel, IN from 4 to 8 pm with a Trisagion Service Wednesday at 7 pm. Additional calling will be held on Thursday November 07, 2013 from 10 am to 11am followed by the Funeral Liturgy beginning at 11 am. Katie's family would like to extend special thanks to the Veterans Administration and to Father Dimitur Angelov. Memorial Contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church or The Sisterhood of St. Stephen's Eastern Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
