Katherine Hines

Katherine Hines passed away on August 24, 2023, surrounded by her family at the age of 81 years old. Katherine was born on January 5, 1942, in Ilsley, KY to Tommy Lee Hines, Sr. and Juanita Alberta (Alexander) Hines. She grew up in a close-knit family with her three sisters and one brother.  She accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Earlington, KY.

Katherine and her family moved to Earlington, KY where she attended school and later graduated from J.W. Million High School. She continued her educational training and received her certification in nursing which it led her to her employment with Hopkins County Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Madisonville, KY.  She enjoyed her career in nursing for 20-plus years.

Katherine loved sewing, singing, and cooking, she was well-known for her famous banana pudding, egg pie, and caramel cake. While always making time for her children.

Katherine later moved to Indianapolis, IN to be closer to her family, where she would later join Bethany Missionary Baptist church under her late brother Pastor Tommy Lee Hines, Jr. until his passing in 2009.  She later joined St. Luke M.B. church under Pastor Curtis L. Vance.

Katherine is preceded in death by her son Darryl Hines, brother Pastor Tommy Hines, Jr., and sister Minnie Martin. She leaves to cherish her memory: son Conrall (Angela) Tandy, daughter Christie Johnson, and sisters Arletta Anthony (Gary, IN) and Phyllis Garrett. Grandchildren: Tyler, Adrienne, De’Von, Ashley, Darryl (Tamara), Khalid, DeSean, Nia, Ariel, Jazzlyn, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Katherine will greatly be missed and remembered as a kind, compassionate, and loving person who loved God as well as her family, she touched so many lives.

Katherine's homegoing Service is Friday, September 8, 2023, with visitation 10:00 am -12:00 pm with services following from 12:00 pm-1:00 pm and graveside service 1:15 pm.
