Karrin Jean Gaddie-Whitfield was born May 12, 1950, to Harold D Gaddie Sr. and Lorraine M Jones -Gaddie in Indianapolis, IN.
Karrin was a student in the Indianapolis Public School system “Crispus Attacks.” After graduating high school, she worked at Western Electric for many years. She worked at RCA, Mr. Dans. If you wanted a buttered bun for your burger, she was the one to make it right for you. She later started working as a teacher’s assistant, where she taught children of all ages. Karrin later attended college at Aristotle College and Ivy Tech College where she earned her diploma to become an LPN. She attended Madam CJ Walker School for Cosmetology. She was the best at pressing and curling hair. No one could give a better silk press. She later spent many years working at Salvation Army Harbor Light Rehab and Detox Center.
Karrin met her Husband, her high school sweetheart, Charles Whitfield II, while at Crispus Attics. The had three beautiful children together, Carol, Angella, and Charles III. They were married for 7 ½ years. She later was introduced to Danny Dunlap Sr, by her son Charles. They became long time friends. She took on the role of being a mother to his two kids, Travis and Danny Jr.
Karrin was a stern, nice and loving mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend. She loved her family and two dogs, Billy and Cocita very much. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed reading her Bible and Tanakh. Karrin enjoyed talking with family and friends, she loved to cook. Karrin stood up for her family when needed, whether it was about their care or anything else they needed. She was very outspoken and one of her mottos in life was “wait a minute.”
Karrin Jean Gaddie-Whitfield leaves behind to cherish her memory her close friend of 33 years, Danny Dunlap Sr., children: Carol Jean Whitfield-Turentine (The Late Kevin), Angella Marie Whitfield, Charles Whitfield III, Travis Jerome Dunlap, Danny Dunlap Jr., her siblings: Twin, Sharrin Adams, William Michael Gaddie, Steven Gaddie, her grandchildren: Clifford Williams, Chrislynn Harris (Kalvin), Corey Nickens (Latrina), Bryan Young, Donella Dixon, Briyiah Whitfield, JaShaun Whitfield, Cincere Whitfield, TreLen Whitfield, ChNiyah Whitfield, Jaeden Whitfield, Kennedy Whitfield, Logan Whitfield, Elijah Whitfield, Chardae Whitfield, great grandchildren: Kyleigh Maxine Rose Williams, Jacob Braeden Eli Williams, Karson Harris, Khalil Harris, De’Amour Nickens, Tristen Nickens, I’yana Nickens, Corieon Nickens, Zoey Young, Harley Whitfield, Meach Whitfield. Demetrius Whitfield, Selenar Whitfield, Josue Whitfield, Josie Whitfield, Aunt Helen Elizabeth Gaddie-Ward, cousins: Jeff Starks, Linda (Terrell), Diane Ward, Mark Jones (Debra), Conchita Gaddie, Laura Martin (Charles), and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Karrin Jean Gaddie-Whitfield departed this life on Thursday, July 20th, 2023, at the age of 73 years.
Karrin was preceded in death by her father Harold D. Gaddie Sr., mother Lorraine Gaddie, brother Harold D. Gaddie Jr., sister Pamela Gaddie, sister Wanda Heslep, great grandsons Hezekiah Williams, Josiah Whitfield, and great granddaughter Kaliah Harris, son in law Kevin Turentine, and a host of other beloved family members.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 from 11am – 12:30pm with Funeral Service to begin at 12:30pm.
