Karen O'Brien Fanning

September 5, 1953 — September 6, 2023

Carmel

We are extremely heartbroken to announce the passing of Karen O’Brien Fanning, age 70. She passed away peacefully the day after her 70th birthday, where she was surrounded by her family and lifelong friends.

Karen was the daughter of the late William H. and Virginia Foltz O’Brien. She is survived by her loving children, Brian Fanning (son), Katherine Detzler (daughter), and Dustin Detzler (son-in-law), as well as her 3 beautiful grandchildren, Reagan (8), Rowan (6), and Riley (4), who were the lights of her life.

She was a lifelong resident of the Indianapolis area, graduating from Shortridge High School Class of 1971 and later from Butler University in 1975. She had a successful 35+ year career with Estee Lauder, where she found joy in helping women feel beautiful. After retiring from Estee Lauder, she began working at Henke Development and Chatham Hills over the last 10 years due to her love of being around people. However, by far, her favorite role was raising her two children and watching her grandkids grow.

Anyone who was lucky enough to know Karen, knows that she was truly one of a kind. Her love for life was apparent in all that she did. Karen was the most incredible Mother, Grammy and friend that anyone could have asked for, always going above and beyond the call of duty, making a lasting impression on her loved ones that they will remember forever. Karen was truly the kindest, most genuine person and always focused on the positives that life has to offer. Karen/Mom/Grammy had the unique ability to make everyone feel extra special regardless of if you had known her for 68 years or 6 minutes. She will be missed beyond belief.

A memorial service will be held on September 30, 2023 at 3:00PM with a Celebration of Karen’s Life to follow lasting until 7:00PM at The Lindley Farmstead at Chatham Hills, 20820 Lindley Farm Rd, Westfield, IN 46074.
