Junior Ray Fair,
83, of Speedway, passed away on Tuesday, February 16,2016. He was born on July 10, 1932 inLiberty, KY as one of 11 children born to Ott and Jessie (Lay) Fair. Junior married Evelene Atwood on January 30,1955; they were married 53 years until her passing on February 29, 2008. Together they were blessed with 3 children,Debbie (Kenny) Ratliff of Speedway, Sandra (Mick) Hovious of Paragon and GaryFair of Bloomington. Also surviving aregrandchildren, Brooke Williams, Tony and Tanna Leap; step-grandchildren, BarryHovious, Kelli Bastin, Shea Fink, Kyle and Justin Ratliff. Junior also leaves his great-grandson, LinkWilliams; step-great-grandchildren, Maqenzi and Madalyn Hovious, Jessica,RoseMary and Tyler Bastin, Hanna and Lilli Fink, Jackson and Aubrey Ratliff. Junior is also survived by his brothers,Herbert Fair of Tennessee and Charles Fair of Ohio; sister, Mildred Davis ofFlorida. He was preceded in death bybrothers, Clyde, Cecil, Raymond, Edward and Herman Fair; sisters, Gladys Wallsand Bertha Ann Miller; step-great-granddaughter, Brenna Bastin. Junior joined the U.S. Army on December 9,1949. He fought in the Korean War for 6months in 1950, until he sustained injuries and was sent to a hospital inJapan. Junior was then transferred toWalter Reed hospital in Washington, D.C. After leaving the hospital, he finished the remainder of his service inFt. Knox, KY and was honorably discharged in 1953. For his service, Junior earned the KoreanService Medal with Bronze Campaign Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Army ofOccupational Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Junior retired from Olin Brass after 33 yearsof service. He also worked part time atAce Hardware and Speedway Auto Parts. Junior was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed working on cars and watchingballgames. He was a proudChristian. Funeral services for Mr. Fairwill be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:30am at Flanner and Buchanan – Speedway. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service, also at the funeralhome. Burial will follow in Maple HillCemetery, Plainfield. Memorialcontributions may be given to St. Vincent Hospice.
