June Victoria Powell

June Victoria Powell, 92, of Coppell, Texas, went home to heaven peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 in her home where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law. June was born to Dennis and Cora Williamson on June 6, 1921 in Henry County (New Castle), Indiana. She was the second of four children; her sisters were the late Dee Barkdoll and Janis Williamson, and a brother, Donald Williamson of Bradenton, Florida. June graduated from New Castle High School in 1939 and received a teaching certificate after attending Olivet Nazarene College in 1948. She taught elementary school briefly in Illinois before returning to Indianapolis, Indiana where she met her future husband. In 1953, Wayne Jennings Powell captured her heart and they were married on May 23rd. They were married for 17 years, residing in Indianapolis, until his unexpected death on June 18, 1970. Shortly thereafter, June began her new career as a U.S. Postal Clerk and retired after 18 years in 1987. June was an active member of the Nazarene church where she served faithfully for many years in various ministries. She loved to travel with friends, and was an avid card player winning the Coppell 2008 Hand and Foot Tournament. June is survived by a son, Mark Powell, of Centreville, VA (Washington DC area); a daughter, Rebekah (Becky) Powell Leitner, and a son-in-law Wayne Leitner of Coppell, TX (Dallas area). She also is survived by four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great grandson. A viewing will be held Saturday, February 8 from 0900-1100 at Flanner-Buchanan Washington Park East. Funeral and graveside services will follow the viewing at 1100.
