Julie Richardson, 83, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025. She was born on July 29, 1941, in Elwood, Indiana, to the late Harold and Mary (Myerly) Hennegan.
Julie graduated from Elwood High School and later attended Ball State University, where she pursued her passion for education. She dedicated 34 years to teaching elementary school in Washington Township Schools; touching the lives of countless students with her warmth, creativity, and unwavering patience. If you were lucky enough to be a student in one of Julie’s classes, you likely took part in Gopher Seeds to Go and the creation of Mallard Pond and Gardens. Julie was eager to share her love of learning and helping others throughout her life. She was the first volunteer to help Jill with Project Sunshine, volunteered at Robin’s elementary school when she became the Principal, and served as an Elder and Deacon at Second Presbyterian Church, especially enjoying her work with Children’s Circle at Second.
Julie found joy and peace in nature—her green thumb was evident in the vibrant gardens she lovingly tended at home, where flowers bloomed under her care each season. She especially delighted in picking fresh bouquets from her garden to share with friends and family, a simple yet heartfelt gesture that reflected her generous spirit. Julie also cherished time spent at the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama, a special place where she and her family created lasting memories. Whether walking along the shoreline collecting seashells, watching the sunset, or simply enjoying the sound of the waves, the beach was her sanctuary—a place where she felt most at peace.
Julie and Bob nurtured a loving family, including daughters Robin (Dave) Lynch and Jill Fletchall and grandchildren Molly Fletchall (Jakob) Heggeland, Robbie (Molly) Lynch, Patrick Fletchall, Shelby Lynch, and Ryan Fletchall. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mary Hennegan; and beloved son-in-law, Tim Fletchall.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the loving and compassionate caregivers of Woodland Terrace of Carmel and Anchor of Hope Hospice, who have been a blessing to Julie and her family.
A Celebration of Life for Julie will be held at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow on Friday, May 23, 2025, in the Chapel at Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 N Meridian St, Indianapolis, IN 46260.
In lieu of flowers, please bring a children’s book to be donated to community schools in memory of Julie. Monetary donations can be made to Second Presbyterian Church and their ministries: secondchurch.org/give
