Julian G. Piercefield
Retired Secretary of Indiana Energy, passed away on Oct. 9th at the age of 86. He resided at the Estates at Carpenters in Lakeland, FL. During his 41 year employment at Indiana Gas, he was a Draftsman, District Engineer, Right of Way Engineer, Manager Land Dept., and Asst. Sect./Land. In 1975 he was named Secretary.
Mr. Piercefield was born on March 6, 1929 in Columbus, Indiana. He married Joan E. Hockersmith in 1957 and they were married 58 yrs. She preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 2015. He was a sports official for the IHSSA for 13 yrs, participating in 6 state basketball tournaments. After retirement in 1988, he worked with the Indiana Golf Assoc. doing scoreboard calligraphy for tournaments. Later, he created scoreboards for the LPGA, PGA, and Senior PGA and was honored to work for the USGA for 5 U.S. Senior Open Championships and 3 U.S. Open Championships. Mr. Piercefield was an active member of Hillcrest Country Club. He also held offices in the International Right of Way Association and the Society of Corporate Secretaries. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Indianapolis.
Mr. Piercefield's only son, David, preceded him in death on July 14, 2007. He is survived by his 3 grandchildren: Stephen, Jacquelyn, and Lauren Piercefield. Also surviving is Deborah Weaver, David's first wife and Becky Strickland, David's widow.
Services will be held at Flanner and Buchanan- Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite) on Friday, November 6 for both Mr. and Mrs. Piercefield at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Indiana Golf Foundation.
