Pittsfield, Illinois.

Judy was born to Frank B. Homer and Ruth Marguerite Homer (Johnson) on July 14, 1942, in

Chicago, IL who relocated from Chicago to Indianapolis, IN when Judy was an infant. Indianapolis is

where Judy grew up and raised her children. She married George 'Jake' Lewis Espy in 1958, with

whom she had four children, then to Gene McCullough in 1973, and finally to David Cook in 1980.

Judy was a mother to four children: Gerald Leland Espy, James Lee Espy, Jack Lewis Espy, and

Jennifer Lynn Espy. Throughout her life she also enjoyed caring for her stepchildren: Randy

McCullough, April McCullough, Teri McCullough, Lee Jay McCullough, and Kyle Cook.

She is survived by her son Gerald “Jerry” Espy (Lorraine), daughter Jennifer “Jenny” Sandifer (Paul) ,

seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents Judy was preceded in

death by a brother Frank Homer of California, and sons Jimmy Espy (1964) and Jack Espy (2021)

both of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Judy was a lifelong learner and attended Shortridge High School, Indiana University, and eventually

Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. She had a diverse career, including roles as a Secretary for

the Indiana State Legislature, a Legal Secretary, a Court Reporter in Marion County Criminal Court,

an Administrative Research Analyst for the IUPUI International Copyright Center, a Program

Facilitator at Oaklawn Spiritual Life Center, a Children’s Minister at an Episcopal Church in Chicago, a

Property Manager in Raleigh, NC, and a Spiritual Leader for Centering Prayer in Raleigh.

Judy had many personal anecdotes, including winning jitterbug dance competitions with her first

husband, competing in street drag racing in the late '50s, camping and waterskiing in her 20s and

30s, learning to write in shorthand on-the-job as a court reporter, becoming an accomplished typist,

spinning witty puns, being an amazing Scrabble player, and walking the 'Camino' in Spain at the age

of 75.

She will be fondly held in our hearts for the love she spread and the wonder she always created

during the holidays.
