Judith Davis

February 11, 1935 — September 15, 2012

Judith Rinehart Davis of Noblesville and Pentwater MI, died Saturday September 15, She was 77. Mrs. Davis, who was born in Indianapolis, was known for her appreciation of others, and her positive attitude--up to a point. When she found out she would not normally be allowed to accompany William E. Davis, her new husband, to his Air Force duty station in Okinawa, she burned up the lines with multiple calls, and letters to the Pentagon to secure the necessary permit to allow her to travel (at her own expense) to be with him. Successful, she then found an apartment to rent, and got a job as the secretary to the 313th Air Division, (Okinawa) Director of Personnel. Their time there, and on leave in Japan, were among her fondest memories. The Davis family lived in Kokomo, Crawfordsville, Evansville, South Bend and Indianapolis. Mrs. Davis was employed, after her children were in college, as a librarian, receptionist and secretary with several firms before retiring from Hamilton Southeastern Utilities. Mrs. Davis was an honor graduate of Broad Ripple High School, Both she and Mr. Davis attended Butler University. At Butler, she continued her academic achievement earning scholarships each year. After her Junior year she also was awarded the Senior Scholarship. She opted to forgo that honor to marry, and follow her husband. She was also a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, Theta Sigma Phi sorority for women in journalism, Scarlet Quill, senior women's honorary, Chimes, junior women's honorary and Spurs sophomore women's honorary. An especially proud time for Mrs. Davis was when both of her children--Bradley (Debra) Plainfield, IN, and Jennifer Kinder (Jeffery) Granger, In--and all of her grandchildren--Rebecca Davis Anderson (Cleveland, OH,) Jason Fisher (Chicago, Il) Amy Davis Condle (Indianapolis, In) and Mary Fisher (Bloomington, In) earned college degrees. Another was the birth of her first great grandchild, Drew Condle, who arrived on Feb. 9, 2012. If he had waited two days, he would have been born on Judy's 77th birthday! Visitation will be Wednesday, between 4 and 8 p,m., at Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple, 1305 E. Broad Ripple Ave., Indianapolis. A celebration of Mrs. Davis' life will be held at Washington Park North Cemetery in Great Hall Chapel, 2706 Kessler Blvd., West Drive, Indianapolis, Thursday, at 1 p,m, before entombment.
