The Honorable Paul Hendricks Johnson, Jr.
of Indianapolis, formerly of Peaks Island, Maine, died October 7, 2012. A former Boone County Superior Court Judge and respected attorney, Paul was born in Indianapolis on New Year's Day, 1927 to the late Paul Hendricks and Fern Frances (Chambers) Johnson.
Paul served his country with the Army Counter Intelligence Corps, and was a graduate of Dartmouth College (1948) and Indiana University School of Law (1955). Paul was a judge for nearly 20 years and was Prosecuting Attorney from 1958 to 1962. He was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Evan Bayh in 1990.
Paul married Rita Gabrielle Michaud on November 25, 1950. They lived in Zionsville, Indiana from 1957 until 1990, when they moved to Peaks Island, Maine. They returned to Indianapolis in 2007. Paul was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, Peaks Island, and St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church in Zionsville. Paul was an Eagle Scout, and was active with the Boy Scouts of America much of his life, helping found Troop 358 in Zionsville.
Paul is survived by his children Paul (Donna) Johnson of Indianapolis; Henry Johnson(Christina) of Lebanon, Maine; Andrew Johnson of Indianapolis; Mark (Kathleen) Johnson of Lawrenceburg; Christopher (Cathie) of Zionsville; Gregory Johnson of Zionsville; and Claudia Woodard (John) of Lanesville. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death in 2008 by Rita, his wife of 57 years, and by his sister Barbara Jeanne White.
Friends may greet Paul's family at Flanner and Buchanan Zionsville, 105 W. Pine, on Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial is planned at a later date at St. Christopher Catholic Church, Peaks Island, Maine. Paul will be laid to rest next to Rita at Pond Grove Cemetery on Peaks Island.
