Juanita Geraldine Shingleton

Juanita Geraldine Shingleton, 75, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 21, 2018.

She was born on December 13, 1942 in Newport News, VA as the youngest of 3 daughters born to the late Edward Samuel Riddle and Phebe Bernice McClary. Nita relocated with her family at a young age to the Indianapolis area where she attended IPS 22 and Wood High School.  She worked as a Manager for USA Skating Rink and Pizza Barn, and dedicated over 30 years of service to the Indianapolis Public School system.  The job she was most proud of, was being a mother to her 6 children.  She was devoted to their care, and was active in the PTA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and whatever activities her children were involved with.  Later in life she enjoyed playing solitaire and watching the Young and the Restless.

She is survived by her children, Rhonda (Jay) Daugherty, Ronald Shingleton, Jr., Robin (Sterling) Horton, Reene (Richard) Wood, Russell (Michelle) Shingleton, Robert (Christina) Shingleton; grandchildren, Rodney Shingleton, Russell Shingleton, Jade Daugherty, Brook Wood, Heather Shingleton, Justin Shingleton; great-grandson, Dakoda Sledge.  Nita is also survived by her sisters, Mary Ellen Gillespie and Nancy Pearce; and canine companion, Mia.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 4-8pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East.  Funeral services will take place Saturday morning at 10am, also in the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery at a later date.  Friends are invited to leave online condolences for the family at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
