Joyce Ann Welsh

March 19, 1948 — May 10, 2024

Indianapolis

Joyce Ann Welsh, of Indianapolis, passed peacefully, surrounded by her husband, son, daughter and grandson on May 10, 2024.  Joyce (Bootsy) was born on March 19, 1948, in Beech Grove, to parents Malcom H. and Myra Jeane (Camden) Roller.

Joyce grew up in Brown County and Nineveh, Indiana and graduated from Nineveh High School in 1966. Yes, where they filmed the movie, Hoosiers.

Above all else, Joyce wanted to be a wife, mother and grandma. Joyce met the love of her life, Douglas Welsh, in the summer of 1967 at a dance hall in Franklin, Indiana. At the time, Joyce was living and working in Franklin and Doug was in between his Junior and Senior year at Indiana University in Bloomington.

Joyce and Doug married on June 22, 1968. On June 22, 2024, they would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Joyce and Doug welcomed their first child, Bradley Dale, in July 1970 and their second child, Kimberly Denise, in January 1973. Joyce was also a very proud grandma of her grandchildren, Brian Douglas, Julie Elizabeth and Lucas Bradley, and her grand-dogs, Frank, Birdie, Beau Gentry, Griffin Allee and Baylor Blue.

Joyce started working in her teens and worked in a variety of administrative positions throughout her life. Joyce joined the family business, Welsh and Associates, Inc., in 1989 working with her husband and son and later with her son-in-law, Michael Jeselskis. Joyce worked in the family business until May 2023.

Joyce was a kind, generous and loving soul. She dedicated her life to nurturing her family and caring for those around her. Joyce’s warmth, compassion and unwavering generosity touched the lives of many. Joyce was a devoted spouse and she and Doug shared a special bond. As a mother and a grandma, Joyce was a continual source of support and love. Joyce’s kind and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on all those she encountered. Joyce loved flowers, plants, gardening, reading, playing candy crush, her extra special teacup Yorkie, Jack Henry, and more than anything, spending time with her family.

Joyce is survived by her husband Doug Welsh and Yorkie, Jack Henry Welsh; her son Brad (Kelly) Welsh; her daughter Kim (Mike) Jeselskis; grandchildren Brian, Julie and Lucas Welsh, grand-dogs Beau Gentry, Griffin Allee and Baylor Blue Welsh and Frank and Birdie Jeselskis; siblings David (Kathryn) Roller, Randy (Kathy) Roller, Robin Roller and Lisa Everett; nieces Kellie Bowling, Debbie BeDell, Rachel (Jeremy) Smith, Carrie (Chris) Butler, Katie (Chris) Dorsten, Caitlin (Travis) Klatka; nephews Brian (Susie) Walker, Jimmy (Crystal) Townsend, Jonathon (Chelsea) Roller, Devyn (Stephanie) Roller and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Malcom and Myra Jeane Roller; mother-in-law Dorothy Welsh; sister-in-law Sandra Castle; brother-in-law Robert Castle; nephew Gary Walker; great-nephew Curtiss Walker; and grand-dogs Cody, Cheech, Ollie, Max, Marvin, Smalls and Lila.

Joyce will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all those who were blessed to know her. Rest in peace.

A memorial visitation for Joyce will be held Saturday May 25, from 12-3pm at Flanner Buchanan Geist. Her memorial service will begin at 3pm. Guests are welcome to continue to visit after the memorial service from 4-5pm.
