Joyce Ellen Phillips

Joyce Ellen Phillips, born 12/23/30, Indianapolis, IN to Ollie and Charles May. Joyce’s first and most important job was being a mom to Linda, Mike and Ken.

Joyce went on to receive her real estate license in the 70’s. She then worked as secretary to the administrator of Hooverwood in the 90’s until retirement. Joyce was a church organist for over 50 years at Linwood Christian Church, Seventh Christian Church, Eastgate Christian Church and Old Bethel Methodist Church. She was also instrumental in the creation of the bell choir at Eastgate. She also taught piano for many years.

Joyce was also a volunteer at church making prayer shawls and quilts to those in need. She was a member of the Red Hat Society.

She was a lover of dogs and music. She traveled extensively at home and abroad including 2 trips to Italy, Ireland and 2 trips to Switzerland.

Joyce was married to Robert “Bob” Phillips for 59 years who proceeded her in death. 

Joyce is survived by their children Linda D. (Brad) Rotert, Michael J. (Rachel) Phillips and Kenneth C. (Pat) Phillips. 3 Grandchildren-Karie Tharp, Morgan (Bradley) Merritt, Hannah (Dean) Luperini. 6 Great-Grandchildren-Robert Tharp; Wayne (Leanne) Tharp; Henry and Rory Luperini; Auggie and Arlo Merritt. 2 Great-Great Grandsons-Gabriel and Michael Tharp.

Visitation will be held 2-4pm on July 19th, 2024, the funeral service will follow at 4pm at Washington Park East-Flanner Buchanan, 10722 E Washington, funeral to follow.

Joyce had rescued 2 golden retrievers (Abby and Zoey). She supported the rescue each year. Memorial contributions can be made to GRRACE. Please go to their site of GRRACE.org, click on Donate and follow the instructions.
