Joyce Marie Freeman

Joyce Marie Freeman (Craft), 78, of Camby, Indiana passed away on February 2, 2018. She was born January 24, 1940 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Harry Earl and Melba Virginia Craft. She was a lifetime resident of the Indianapolis area, attending Ben Davis High School. She married Lloyd Freeman, her loving husband of 54 years, in 1960. She might have chuckled at the loving part, as Lloyd did once leave her behind in a gas station bathroom during one of their traveling adventures. Thankfully the highway patrol tracked him down within 20 minutes and said, "You did something other husbands only dream of doing!" While it probably was not funny to Joyce at the time, that story has been told over and over again throughout the family generations so it is official family history. Joyce was an energetic woman, often described as a firecracker. She was of small stature but had no problem putting people in their place. She was "particular" as all things had to be done a certain way, Joyce's way. Family remembers her as a natural caregiver who liked doing yard work and doing word searches. After being a homemaker for many years, she joined the workforce. She was gainfully employed by Wayne Township Schools at what was then South Wayne Junior High where she worked in food service for 16 years.  She also spent time as a volunteer for St. Francis - Mooresville, where she worked the front desk. As all women of her generation, they just don't make them like they used to. She was one of a kind and will be missed by all who had the honor of meeting her. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Lloyd Freeman. Surviving to cherish her memory are, brother, Don Craft; children, Donald (Debbie) Freeman, Kimberly (Brad) Magee, Robin (Phil) Kendall; step-children, Mike (Diane) Freeman, Gary Freeman, Danny (Tammie) Freeman, Steve (Debbie) Freeman, Sharon Hoskins, Diane Crider, Cheryl (Bobby) Bray; grandchildren, Donnie, David, Daniel, Nicholas, Philip, and 7 great-grandchildren. Family and friends may visit Tuesday, February 6 2018 from 12-2 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Decatur Township, Indianapolis, IN 46221. Services will be held at 2 PM after visitation. Joyce will be laid to rest next to husband, Lloyd, at Floral Park Cemetery.
