Joy Modene Pruett

June 5, 1930 — January 18, 2016

PRUETT,Joy Modene passsed away January 18, 2016 after several months of poor health.She was born to Waneta Joyce (Golliher) and Winston Murdock on June 5, 1930 andgrew up in Linton, IN, a child of the Depression. She graduated from LintonHigh School in 1948 and became a telephone operator, a job she loved with agroup of women she stayed connected to. She married Harlan Pruett, Jr. in 1951,and enjoyed her time posted to San Diego while he was in the Marines. Theyreturned to Indianapolis and started a family. She worked many years as abookkeeper for Kinney Shoes and then managed a State Farm Insurance office for20+ years. She enjoyed work, so much so that she retired once and returned towork to keep herself busy.

Beforelosing her life, she lost her mother, husband, father, son, best friend,sister, and her health. Despite a lifetime of challenges, she was feisty untilthe end. She loved her grandchildren and spent many hours watching theirsporting events. Music and Singing, Euchre and Puzzles were belovedactivities: she sang with the Sweet Adelines in the 80's. “Modene” was a greatcook and a stylish dresser. She loved purple and she would enjoy knowingwe all wore a touch of purple for her service commemorating herlife.

Carryingon are her children, Rick (Lisa), Cheryl (Fred Jensen), and Rob (Jenny);grandchildren, Bryan (Shannon), Kalee (Zach) Barnes, Keenan (Dan) Lavenberg,Erin (Wally) Tegegne, and Jeremiah (Melissa): great-grand children Gabby,Annabelle, Charlotte, Deshae, Jamika, Nolan and Graham. Also surviving aresister, Nancy Headley; and brothers, Don Workman, Jerry and LarryMurdock. Special thanks to friend, Linda Eads, for her doting way, andthe staff at Countryside Meadows where she resided for two years.

Publiccalling will be Saturday, January 23 from 2-4pm with the service at 4pm atFlanner and Buchanan-Speedway 2950 N. High School Rd. Indianapolis, IN46224. Burial will be in Washington ParkNorth Cemetery. Online condolences and avideo tribute may be viewed at www.flannerbuchanan.com
