Zionsville

Josephine Mary (Cavataio) Milewski passed peacefully with family on March 16, 2024, at the age of 93.

Josephine was born June 27, 1930, in Wyandotte, Michigan.

Josephine graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, Michigan in 1948. After graduation, she attended IBM School and was then employed at Great Lakes Steel as a keypunch operator. She married her high school sweetheart, Leonard S. Milewski, on October 3, 1953, at Saint Elizabeth Church in Wyandotte, MI with over 800 guests in attendance. She retired in 1955 to become a full-time mother and homemaker when they purchased their first home in Southgate, Michigan.

As her children got older, she was a volunteer at the high school they were attending. She volunteered in the school library beginning in 1972 and was hired as the Assistant Librarian in 1977. She retired after 12 years of service from Aquinas Catholic High School in July of 1989.

After retirement in 1989, she and Leonard became avid travelers. They enjoyed many trips and cruises to places around the world, including adventures to Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Canda, the Caribbean, Italy, Greece, Russia, Mexico, the Panama Canal, Croatia, France, England, and Spain.

She was a member of Saint Pius X Church in Southgate, MI, Saint Alphonsus Liguori Church in Zionsville, IN. She was a lifelong member of the Italian American Club in Wyandotte, MI.

After 90 years residing in Michigan, Josephine and Leonard moved to Hoosier Village in Indiana in March of 2021, where they met many new friends.

Josephine loved to cook and bake. Her fondest memories included homemade dinners around the table with family and friends for Sunday dinners, birthdays, and holidays. She loved playing cards with friends and family. Her legacy will live on in the beautiful counted cross stitch art pieces she created over the years. They adorn the homes of family and friends across the country.

Josephine is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Leonard S. Milewski; parents Antoinette (Passalaqua) and Bastiano Cavataio; sister Concetta Zack; and brothers Victor, Anthony, and William Cavataio.

She is survived by her daughter Joalenn (John) Quinn; sons David Milewski (Barbara) and Mark Milewski; grandchildren Dr. Brian (Anne) Quinn, Alexander (Vielka) Milewski, John Milewski, and Natalie Milewski; and great-grandchildren Keegan and Harrison Quinn.
